About air quality in Greenwich
Greenwich runs from the Thames at North Greenwich and the Greenwich Peninsula down through Woolwich and Eltham. The A2 / Blackwall Tunnel approaches and the A102 cut north–south through the borough, with consistent NO₂ pressure along both. Background air has improved with the ULEZ extension in 2023, but roadside concentrations along these arterial routes remain a meaningful resident exposure.
PM₂.₅ across Greenwich tracks regional weather and transport rather than borough boundaries; the river corridor and East London plume mean Greenwich often shares conditions with Lewisham, Bexley, and Newham on a given day. Coverage is denser along the river and thinner toward the southeast — the borough-level verdict here is most reliable for the northern and central wards.
